A person aspiring to become an ultrasound technician can receive training at hospital, at vocational technical institution, training from a college or university providing  a 2 year or 4 year program for learning ultrasound technique.  However courses should have accreditation from Allied Health Education Programs. No states require any license from Diagnostic Medical Sonographers though competent bodies like American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARD MS) certify the course passed by ultrasound technician and takes a general examination as well as specialty exam. And in the United States it is expected that with aging of population there would be increased need of courses in Ultrasound.
